On April 23, 2025, Beeinfotech PH’s (BIT) CEO Wing Cheung, a key speaker at the 2025 Executive Roundtable Summit, joined the China-Southeast Asia Digital Infrastructure Cooperation Forum in Singapore. In a roundtable on ecosystem co-building and localization, Cheung showcased The HIVE, an AI-ready hybrid data center in the Philippines, to illustrate how multinationals balance strategy, operations, and local practices for competitiveness in Southeast Asia.

Strategic Anchoring: Mission-Driven Planning

Cheung stressed defining clear objectives for Southeast Asia ventures, balancing short-term gains with long-term sustainability. The HIVE, a 25,000 m², 20 MW facility in Metro Manila with 3,600 racks (PUE <1.35), supports AI, cloud, and colocation, driving the Philippines’ digital economy (10%+ GDP growth). Positioned as a local and Asia-Pacific hub, it leverages low-latency connectivity and 20-30 planned undersea cables. BIT’s “global expertise + localized operations” model uses industry-leading partners and local telecoms to integrate The HIVE into the regional ecosystem, adapting to market maturity and demand.

Deep Localization: Infrastructure and Talent

Southeast Asia’s diverse markets require tailored strategies. The HIVE’s phased approach—starting with cloud services, advancing to AI-driven operations, and targeting regional connectivity—ensures scalability. Designed for Uptime Tier 3, ISO, and LEED, it complies with the Philippines’ Data Privacy Act and global standards (ISO, GDPR) through modular security protocols. To address talent shortages, BIT partners with the University of Makati to train Filipino engineers, while a locally-led team ensures flexibility. “Cultural differences fuel innovation,” Cheung noted, highlighting cost-effective local market alignment.

Ecosystem Co-Building: Sustainable Growth

“Southeast Asia’s digital future thrives on collaboration,” Cheung said. The HIVE’s ecosystem integrates global technology providers for AI and liquid cooling innovations, local suppliers for efficiency, and Philippine organizations for green policies. With solar power and community digital literacy programs, The HIVE reduces costs and earns local support, setting a regional benchmark. “Green transformation is a competitive edge,” Cheung stated, noting its appeal to multinational partners.

“The HIVE is BIT’s first step in a regional infrastructure network,” Cheung concluded. By blending global technology with local insights, BIT aims to enable Southeast Asia’s digital economy through collaboration and innovation.
